About us
Cheap Astronomy is based in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. Cheap Astronomy houses Sky Station 1, possibly the cheapest department store telescope in the southern hemisphere.
Using the full 4 inch resolving power of Sky Station 1, and aided by a pair of inexpensive 10x50mm binoculars, Cheap Astronomy scans the skies for new opportunities to amaze and inspire on a minimum budget.
Cheap Astronomy is managed by Steve Nerlich, occasional volunteer explainer at Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex, a part of NASA’s Deep Space Network.
Cheap Astronomy is in no way associated with NASA, or CSIRO, or the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex, nor would any of these organisations be likely to offer Steve Nerlich a real job in the foreseeable future.
The Cheap Astronomy website has been built on a lot of good will and a characteristically minimum expenditure of energy. Input is welcome on any errors, omissions or distortions of fact that may be found on these pages.
Email us at cheapastro@gmail.com. We may get around to fixing all that stuff, and even adding new bits, some night when it’s too cold outside.

Sure – just become a Patreon patron or buy the book Astronomy without a Telescope (look to your left). Thanks.
